When AI compares AV quotes, good system design wins projects
AI is starting to influence how customers research suppliers and compare AV proposals. For integrators, that makes the quality of the technical case behind a quote more important. A well-designed solution, supported by clear rationale, drawings, modelling and evidence, is easier for customers and AI tools to assess than a product list and a price. CUK works alongside integrators to develop credible AV system designs and the supporting documentation needed to show why they will perform in the real space. This gives smaller and mid-sized integrators access to deeper technical resource, helps their proposals stand up to scrutiny and improves their chances of winning profitable projects.
Recently, one of our integrator partners won a project from a customer who had several competing proposals and used a Large Language Model to help assess them. The CUK-supported solution wasn’t the cheapest, but it was selected because the AI scored it to be the strongest technical solution for the challenges of the space. This is but one of the clearest examples we’ve seen of AI starting to influence AV buying decisions.
For integrators, that raises an interesting question: what happens when your proposal is no longer being read only by the customer, consultant or procurement team, but also by AI?
A well-engineered solution has always mattered. But as AI becomes part of the evaluation process, the ability to clearly communicate the thinking, evidence and technical justification behind a design may become an even bigger competitive advantage.
AI is already becoming part of the way businesses research, compare and evaluate their options. Recent AVIXA research found that 70% of Pro AV service providers are already using generative AI, alongside 75% of end-user organisations suggesting AI-assisted evaluation is likely to become increasingly common. For smaller and medium-sized integrators, this creates both an opportunity and a risk.
Why Technical AV Design Is Becoming More Visible
A good AV proposal has always been about understanding the space, identifying the requirements and constraints, designing the right system and being able to explain why that system will work, all while balancing the customer’s budget.
AI-assisted evaluation potentially makes the quality of that technical case even more important.
Give an LLM several proposals to compare and it can examine the information within them: the products proposed, technical specifications, supporting evidence, design rationale and how clearly each proposal addresses the requirements of the project.
That doesn’t make AI an AV consultant. Its judgement is only as good as the information and context available to it.
But it does mean that a carefully engineered proposal, supported by clear technical evidence, may have an advantage over one containing little more than a BOM and a price.
Well-engineered solutions have always been essential. What’s changing is that AI may make it easier for customers to identify the difference between a solution backed by genuine design work and one built largely around a product list and a price.
The Opportunity for Growing AV Integrators
For an owner-led or medium-sized integrator, there is an obvious challenge here. You may be competing for projects against much larger organisations with dedicated design teams, bid resources and specialist engineers. Carrying all of that capability permanently in-house isn’t realistic for every business.
CUK’s technical team already works alongside integrators to design and develop solutions. We can support product selection and system design, while also providing the evidence behind the design: drawings, EASE modelling and projections, technical data and supporting documentation that clearly demonstrates how the proposed system addresses the requirements of the space.
We can then help turn that work into a technical proposition that is easy for the customer to understand and can stand up to scrutiny when competing proposals are compared.
In this recent case, the proposal succeeded because there was substance behind it: rigorous design, evidence, technical clarity and experience. Whether a proposal is being scrutinised by a consultant, a customer or an LLM, those fundamentals stand up well to scrutiny.
The Risk: AI Can Generate Convincing But Flawed Designs
Integrators themselves are beginning to use generative AI to research products, compare technologies and pull together initial system ideas. Used appropriately, that can be an extremely useful productivity tool, particularly for smaller teams.
The danger is that an AI-generated solution can look extremely convincing without being grounded in the reality of the project. An LLM hasn’t walked into the room. It doesn’t know the practical installation constraints unless somebody tells it. It hasn’t modelled loudspeaker coverage. It may identify products that appear compatible from published information without understanding how they will actually perform together in a particular application.
This is where experienced technical judgement becomes extremely valuable because AI can accelerate the work, but it cannot replace real-world expertise and engineering.
For integrators using these tools internally, they can accelerate research, comparison, documentation and early thinking, but can’t replicate the experience gained from hundreds of successfully implemented real-world projects.
How CUK Supports Better AV Proposals
We can take the initial requirement or concept and help develop it into a properly designed solution, backed by the drawings, projections, calculations and technical evidence needed to make the case convincingly.
When proposals are being compared with the help of AI, the quality of the technical case behind your design becomes much more visible. That’s why technical evidence, clear design rationale and robust engineering are becoming increasingly important competitive advantages.
The Future of AI in Pro AV Procurement
AI will undoubtedly change more parts of the pro AV market over the next few years, and we’re all here for the journey. What already seems clear is the businesses that can demonstrate the thinking behind their designs, not just the products they’ve selected or the lowest price, may find themselves at a growing advantage.
We can help provide the technical design, modelling, drawings and supporting evidence needed to make that case, so make sure you bring our team into projects early in the design process.
