The iconic bar that inspired the 2000 movie by the same name, Coyote Ugly, has recently opened its door to the public. The London version of Coyote Ugly is expected to be a party spot given the drinks and party packages it offers, popular with stag and hen dos. The iconic bar that inspired the 2000 movie by the same name, Coyote Ugly, has recently opened its doors to the public. Coyote Ugly Saloon, which began in NYC in the 1990s and has since opened sites in Wales and the north of England, has now made its capital debut in August 2022 with the opening of a location in Camden, London. The London version of Coyote Ugly is expected to be a party spot given the drinks and party packages it offers, popular with stag and hen dos. The two-story, 5000 sq. ft bar will be open every day of the week and needed a sound solution system for their high-octane nightclub.
Dave Morgan at Spartan AV had approached CUK Group to provide Coyote Ugly with a complete audio solution for their new saloon bar. The venue resorted to Renkus-Heinz for the sound solution in order to match the iconic high intensity of the bar recognised for its intoxicating bartop dancing in order to imitate the well-known culture of the Coyote Ugly brand and stimulate the enthusiastic crowds. Also because it features an incredibly small, space-saving design while providing exceptional, full-range performance.
“Coyote Ugly’s brand and its guest experience are both founded on music. Fans remember the songs that helped to make Coyote Ugly an iconic name,” said James Lawford, live sound channel manager at CUK. “It’s therefore fitting that loudspeakers from Renkus-Heinz were selected to provide high-performing, reliable sound that ensures an optimal guest experience and an elevated brand delivery.”
A number of solutions from various brands distributed by CUK Group were used. The installation features six CX81 compact two-way complex conic horn loudspeakers, six CX121 two-way complex conic horn loudspeakers, and four CX118S 18-inch high-performance subwoofers. Coyote Ugly receives steady energy from the CX118S, which provides the high-impact sub-bass necessary to support the full-range loudspeakers. The loudspeakers and powerful subwoofers offer full audio coverage of the audience and excellent, powerful sound quality so that everyone is carried along by the music throughout the night. The entire venue, including all loudspeaker processing and protection, is powered by a Powersoft Quattrocanali 4804DSP four-channel flexible amplifier with DSP and Dante in conjunction with a two-channel Duecanali 4804 DSP with Dante for subwoofers in just 2U of rack space. The entire system, which includes a Symetrix Prism 88 for overall system control and microphone mixing, a MIPRO ACT-7 wireless system, and everything stored in a CAYMON SPR618 equipment rack, works together to deliver the potent sound of the Renkus-Heinz C Series, maximising the sound quality at the newest Coyote Ugly location.
“Renkus-Heinz brings this venue together. The power of the loudspeakers is clear and matches the high vitality of Coyote Ugly,” James Lawford commented. “To not detract from the dancers, the loudspeakers are strategically placed above the bar, ensuring no architectural intrusion. Now, all the sound is directed at the crowd; there, they can dance the night away while enjoying the drinks, company and entertainment.”
“The C Series loudspeakers were remarkable in that the rigging and tuning of the boxes was utterly straightforward, with their coverage and sound exactly as desired and expected: clean and neutral. Hardly any EQ was required, which lets the source material do its thing. There is plenty of headroom available, allowing the four MIPRO wireless mics to sit above the playback levels with everything sounding transparent and clear. Since commissioning the system we haven’t had to make any changes, the client is really happy,” says Dave Morgan from Spartan AV.
Lawford adds that CUK was able to finish this installation on schedule, under budget, and without sacrificing audio quality or speaker quantity. He points to this achievement as a convincing endorsement of the Renkus-Heinz C Series product line. Renkus-Heinz is expanding its industry-leading reach with ground-breaking installations like Coyote Ugly, Camden, which bring the music and excitement from the screen to life. This project marks CUK’s first installation of the C Series in the UK.
“An attractive venue needs a powerful sound system behind it. Renkus-Heinz provided Coyote Ugly with just that. The loudspeakers brilliantly feature our performers and enliven our guests, ensuring everyone has the best time imaginable at Coyote Ugly, Camden.” said Steve Lewis, the chairman of the Breaking Brands group which owns the UK franchise rights to Coyote Ugly.
