Wireless PA for Outdoor Events: ScotPlant Exhibition Case Study
Steedsy.com Ltd was appointed to deliver site audio for the 2026 ScotPlant Construction Equipment Exhibition, held at the Royal Highland Centre in Edinburgh. This was company owner Steedsy’s fourth year with the show, one of many such events handled by his company during a typical year.
Utilising his extensive experience, and an inventory of high-quality outdoor loudspeakers, Steedsy.com faced the need to extend coverage across the outdoor site by linking to a secondary PA system, with a wireless solution proving the obvious solution, despite the challenging environment. Steedsy.com needed a fast, reliable way to get PA audio from one location to another at ScotPlant, without running long cable routes around a busy outdoor exhibition site. The RF Venue PA Extension Kit fitted the bill and performed flawlessley.
The Challenge
- Deliver clean, dependable audio over 140 metres outdoors
- Operate in an unknown RF environment with heavy plant machinery in the airspace and a busy airport next door
- Avoid time‑consuming cable runs that would increase install and derig effort
- Maintain reliability in inclement weather

The Solution
CUK Group recommended the RF Venue PA Extension Kit, enhanced with directional antennas to maximise performance and resilience.
System configuration:
- RF Venue PA Extension Kit – two‑channel transmitter with two IP‑rated outdoor receivers
- RF Venue CP‑Beam antenna on the transmitter side, mounted 4–5 metres high and aimed toward the receivers
- RF Venue Diversity Fin IPX (DFIN-IPX) on the receiver side, combining A and B signals into a single high‑performance directional antenna, rated for outdoor usage
This antenna combination was selected to overcome distance, RF uncertainty and the potential for significant on‑site interference.
Specifically, the CP-Beam, an industry standard IEM antenna, has a highly focussed, circularly polarised output providing a long transmission range, and is housed in a rugged protective cover.
The DFIN-IPX is built into a tough, IP rated enclosure making it ideal for use for temporary or permanent usage outside. Like the industry proven Diversity Fin, the new IPX model picks up signals in any orientation, providing diversity in a single, compact unit.
The Result
- Rock‑solid wireless audio over 140 metres with headroom to spare
- Zero dropouts despite heavy machinery moving across the site, itself located next to a busy airport
- A true set‑and‑forget system throughout the event
- Significant savings in time, labour and cable management
The CP‑Beam and Diversity Fin pairing proved unbeatable in this environment. Based on its performance, Steedsy is confident the system would have delivered even greater range if required.

Why It Mattered
The wireless solution simplified both setup and pack‑down, removing the time and risk associated with long cable runs across a busy exhibition site. This approach not only reduced operational complexity but also reinforced Steedsy’s credibility as a professional service provider to the ScotPlant organisers. Successful deployment further increased Steedsy’s confidence in the wider RF Venue ecosystem, building on their existing positive experience with the Diversity Fin.
Products Used
Following the event, David Stevenson from Steedsy confirmed flawless performance:
“The system was easy to set up and delivered rock solid wireless transmission allowing us to focus on the show rather than technical matters. The wireless extension kit will prove useful for other similar events, a really useful addition to our hire stock.”
